  • How to Vote

Your Vote Matters!

Hope would love to earn your vote! No matter what, the most important thing is that you get out and vote. Here are some tools to help you along the way.

Find Your District

Hope Johnson Check Voter Registration
Concord is divided into 5 Districts. Hope is running for City Council in District 2. Not sure which District is yours? Look it up here! This is the City of Concord's interactive district map. All you have to do is type in your address!

Check Your Registration

Not sure if you are registered to vote or where? Find out here! This is the CA Secretary of States voter registration lookup. All you will need is your name, CA drivers license or ID number, social security number, and date of birth. You'll be able to check on your registration, party affiliation, mail-in-ballot preferences, find your polling place, and more!

Still need to register to vote? Do it here! This is the Secretary of States online voter registration portal. The deadline to register to vote is October 19th, 2020. Even if you miss this deadline, you can still register to vote provisionally at your polling place or registrar. Your registration is not guaranteed when you do it in person, but we still encourage it! Provisional ballots can still sway elections.

Turning in Your Ballot

On May 8, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-64-20, which, among other things, orders that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed to each voter prior to the November 3, 2020 in addition to offering in-person voting locations. The CA Secretary of state has detailed information on the Election on their website here: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration/vote-mail/vbm-nov2020-general-election

Ultimately, this means there are a few ways you can turn in your ballot! Here are some details to help you get those votes in on time.

Voting on
Election Day

While we encourage you to return your ballot before election day, all vote-by-mail ballots can be turned in at your regular polling place on Election Day, 11/3. Make sure your ballot is in the envelope provided, signed, and dated.

You also still have the option to vote in person like normal. You might need to sign something stating that you are not using your vote-by-mail ballot.

Early Voter Drop-off

Vote-by-mail ballots can be dropped off in person! We recommend dropping off your ballot as soon as possible. Officially, vote-by-mail ballots that are personally delivered must be delivered no later than the close of polls at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Make sure your ballot is in the envelope provided, signed, and dated.

A permanent Secure Ballot Drop Box was installed at Civic Center on Sept. 10. It weighs 500 lbs. and constructed from ¼” steel mounted on a heavy-duty steel post that is bolted into the ground with special security bolts. The design of the opening (snout) is narrow and the box contains internal baffles which will prevent tampering or retrieval of envelopes. The drop box will be available 29 days before an election (October 5 for the November 3, 2020 Election) and will be available until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Once opened, the ballot box is available 24/7. Ballots are collected daily by a team of two County employees who also inspect the box for damage or evidence of tampering.

Check this early voting site to find other drop-off locations near you: caearlyvoting.sos.ca.gov/

Mail-in

We recommend you mail your ballot at least 1 week prior to the election on 11/3. Officially, Vote-by-mail ballots that are mailed must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by your county elections office no later than 17 days after Election Day.  Make sure your ballot is in the envelope provided, signed, and dated.
